UK-US Higher Education New Partnerships Fund
To mark International Education Week in mid November, the British Council announced that it will contribute $500,000 toward a new initiative, the UK-US Higher Education New Partnerships Fund, to stimulate increased interaction between United Kingdom and United States higher education institutions.
The fund is linked to extensive research carried out in cooperation with the Institute for International Education earlier in the year on higher education partnerships between the UK and the US. Full details of the New Partnerships Fund will be announced in early 2010 alongside the full research findings.
The partnership will be funded by the Prime Minister's Initiative for International Education (PMI2), a five year strategy which aims to secure the UK's position as a leader in international education.
Framework Sets Out Ten-Year Vision for Higher Education
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has issued a report, Higher Ambitions: the future of universities in a knowledge economy. It provides a framework for universities to maintain their place of global excellence, widen participation for the best students, contribute more to the economy and strengthen their research capacity.
The British Council, which contributed to the government's review of higher education, welcomed the “landmark” framework as a new commitment to international higher education.
